First Post - Getting Ready

Hello to all of you who have watched with "trainwreck" type fascination the birth and planning of this summer adventure. The Eaton/Littley family will be spending the better part of the summer of 2008 in the steamy interior of Costa Rica's lowland forest. We will be at Duke University's La Selva (pronounced, La Selba) tropical biology research station http://www.ots.ac.cr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=162&Itemid=348
doing various types of research with a number of scientists and students from North and Central America.
Bill left on the 23rd of June to get some preliminary work done and the rest of us will head down there on the 7th of July. We have been busy putting together our personal neccessities, which for me includes industrial strength bug repellant, for Bobby a suitcase full of books and one pair of underwear, Liam is happy there will be animals down there as he was not permitted to pack his pets and bring them, Grandpa is armed with summer curriculum for the boys, his laptop and his concession the the heat......short-sleeved T-shirts, no shorts. We have also made sure we have rubber boots (mucky, muddy, jungle trails) and Crocs for their ventialtion and waterproof attributes.
Sydney will be staying behind to woman the homestead and keep the homefires burning. The animals are greatfull. We will be adding to this blog periodically and will upload pictures as we get them (provided Sydney will let me borrow her camera). Check back when you and let us knowhow you are all doing. We'll miss you all
